Carmen McRae was enjoying a revival of her career as she met new audiences in outdoor concerts at UC Berkeley and Monterey Jazz Festivals. Just three years after her 1968 Berkeley Jazz Festival appearance, she would be nominated for a Grammy for best jazz performance as a soloist.
